7500 Sq. Feet of Auto Repair Shop
Our auto repair shop is bigger than it looks from State St. DFM Auto Repair runs for almost half a city block on the Mill St side. With 12 service bays, and six lifts we are one of the largest auto repair shops in the area! Our facility includes a huge parking lot just north of our building. Noteworthy, an alarm system and 24/7 Camera System for added security and customer vehicles are always stored inside for the night. In addition, we have a comfortable waiting room. Our building is bigger than it looks from the outside. However, we are small enough to offer the pride of personal service to each and every one of our customers. Our auto mechanics have been a proud part of this community for most of their lives. Chances are you will be talking to one of the owners when you come in.
Looking For Long Term Relationships
At DFM Auto Repair, we are looking for long term relationships. Our service advisors feel the best way to accomplish this is to explain automotive repair work or maintenance in easy to understand terms. Therefore, we provide a detailed estimate so you can make an informed decision prior to authorizing work. Over many years of service to the Ukiah Valley, our auto repair shop has learned a picture is indeed worth a thousand words. With this in mind, we use many educational tools. The result is an explanation you can understand. We will never surprise you at the counter with a bill which is higher than you authorized. Our highly skilled team will fix only what you authorize us to fix. However, in the interest of your peace of mind, we may make recommendations or alert you to potential problems. We want you well informed. We would be doing a disservice if we did not keep you abreast of what we see. We save the old parts until the end of the job. If you want to see them – just ask. We believe in both honesty and integrity; that’s the reason we have been around for over 50 years and counting.

What Does DFM Mean?
Ever Wonder What the Initials DFM Stand For?
We have been asked many times, what does DFM stand for? In 1961, three guys, David, Fritz and Mac, were working for Ford Motors (at that time located in our building). The car mechanic team went on strike. When the strike was over, they had already decided to start an auto repair shop of their own. The first DFM was located across from Ukiah Grange. The year was 1962.
Six months later, the Ford dealer moved to its current location on 575 S. State St. Ukiah, CA 95482, leaving the building empty, DFM moved in. In 1977, Marlin, the current owner, came to work at DFM as a mechanic. In 1983, David, Fritz and Mac retired and sold the business to Marlin and Bonnie.
Ben started working at DFM in 1994. So it would make sense that Bonnie and Marlin passed on the reigns to Ben and his wife Mary in 2021.
DFM is for David, Fritz and Mac…
We just say: “Darn Fine Mechanics since 1962” Stop by we would love to talk to you and pamper your vehicle.
